From 1 August 2017, the threshold amount for a major domestic building contract increased from $5,000 to $10,000.
You may ask a client to sign a document before entering into a contract for construction work.
If the contract is to carry out domestic building work, and the price is more than $10,000, that contract must comply with the Domestic Building Contracts Act 1995. View our Preparing a major domestic building contract checklist page.
For more detailed information about pre-construction contracts, view our Preliminary agreements page.
