The former co-director of a roof repair company, Master Roof Pty Ltd, has lost an appeal against a $25,000 fine for breaches of the Domestic Building Contracts Act 1995 and the Fair Trading Act 1999.
Mary-Anne Costales claimed she had not appeared in court when the fine was imposed in 2007 because she had not been served with the charges. She argued that they had been sent to an old address.
The Melbourne Magistrates’ Court dismissed the appeal and will have to pay the fine. Ms Costales was also ordered to pay $600 costs.
Master Roof Pty Ltd was in liquidation at the time Ms Costales was fined.
