The Victorian Building Authority (VBA) has immediately suspended the building registrations of Aycon Constructions & Building Services Pty Ltd (Aycon) and its nominee director. This automatically suspends any building permits in Aycon’s name. All work on Aycon building projects must cease immediately.

VBA investigations allege Aycon has carried out domestic building work without the required insurance. The VBA also alleges that some certificates of insurance with the VMIA logo are not genuine.

The VBA has written to affected Aycon clients. It has also published detailed information on the VBA website.

We understand that this situation will be distressing for Aycon clients and encourage home owners to visit the VBA website to find out more.

We also encourage clients of all builders to verify their domestic building insurance directly with the relevant insurer. If you have a certificate issued by the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA) you can verify it via the VMIA policy verification tool.

As of 1 May, Aycon continues to operate as a business and clients can follow the usual steps for resolving disputes or delays. See Building disputes, defects and delays.

New penalties have been introduced this year for building practitioners who fail to meet their obligations to buy domestic building insurance.
